The momentum towards change and reform builds throughout May, which features three planetary stations, a Jupiter/Saturn opposition and Uranus entering Aries. We are in the waning phase of the April 14 new moon in Aries, with a focus on new beginnings and desire for freedom and independence. The last full moon in Scorpio on April 28 may have brought up new fears and resistance towards change. The first half of May favors gaining insights about practical ways to incorporate new changes while maintaining a stable foundation.
The first week of May can bring some delays, interruptions or chaos, which reminds us that we are still under Mercury retrograde until mid-month. It is best to postpone any significant plans or new beginnings until later. Latent anxieties can surface on May 2 when Saturn forms a challenging aspect (quincunx) to Neptune. This aspect lingers through June, giving us time to examine and adjust any limiting beliefs causing turmoil. Mercury in Taurus forms a favorable trine to Pluto in Capricorn on May 3 that deepens our perception. Due to the retrograde cycle, this aspect also makes a second appearance this month on May 19. This period can be effectively used for journaling any new insights that arise and how to bring them into one's daily life. On May 11, Mercury turns direct at 3 Taurus, bringing more clarity and evenness to daily routines.
The New Moon occurs on May 13 at 24 Taurus, bringing new focus to the areas of finances/resources, security, stability and values. Taurus rules banks, artists, and spas, along with the qualities of patience, persistence, practicality, determination and being possessive and stubborn. As it is also a comfort-loving sign, we can also use this lunation cycle to try out new ways to sooth our souls and alleviate daily stress. This may prove quite valuable in the coming months. This lunation receives challenging aspects from both Neptune and Mars, reminding us to have clarity of purpose before taking important actions. Favorable aspects from Jupiter and Saturn can bring new growth and stability, while an alignment with the dwarf planet Sedna opens us to the energy of the divine feminine. The Sabian symbol for this degree advises us to replace any vengeance with courageous actions for the good of the whole.
The Venus/Mars sextile during the first half of this month helps us make connections with like-minded others. May 16-19 features several Venus alignments with Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune that focus awareness on how we communicate and share (Gemini) in our relationships and if it is in balance with our true intentions and values. The second Mercury/Pluto trine on May 19 reminds us that we can choose to communicate from a higher level of awareness.
On May 22, Jupiter in Pisces opposes Saturn in Virgo, signifying the midway point of the 20-year Jupiter-Saturn cycle that correlates with major social changes. Jupiter is the planet of expansion and growth, while Saturn represents stability and the forces of resistance to change. At this time we may be resolved to stay with practical solutions that are not compatible with our real goals. However when Jupiter joins with revolutionary Uranus next month, any outworn life structures and roles will be subject to even greater change. This aspect cycle is in effect until January 2011, providing us with more opportunities to bring our lives into greater alignment with our dreams and ideals. (See Eclipse Special below)
The Full Moon occurs on May 27 at 7 Sagittarius. Sagittarius rules higher education, travel, sports, religion and philosophy; and being idealistic, benevolent, optimistic, truth-seeking, arrogant and freedom-loving. On this same day, Uranus enters the sign Aries for the first time, adding to the fire energy for this day. This is a favorable time to get in touch with our visions for this coming year and visualize them being manifested. What is our greatest source of inspiration and how can we bring more of it into our daily life? The Sabian symbol for this degree reminds us to pay attention to what nurtures our heart center and gives us more faith in the sustaining power of life.
As Uranus enters this world point degree, it becomes a catalyst for sudden political and earth changes. Later it will join Pluto, Saturn and Jupiter to form a cardinal cross pattern over the summer months. This potent planetary pattern will affect individuals born on the early degrees of Aries, Libra, Cancer and Capricorn, as well as those with planets at these degrees. Saturn turns direct on May 30 at 28 Virgo, bringing increased responsibilities, but also more structure and organization. The following day, Neptune turns retrograde at 29 Aquarius, which can bring confusion and illusion. This time can be favorably used to become more centered through a spiritual practice. This day also features a Venus alignment with the nodes in Cancer/Capricorn, which can bring previous partners or relationship issues back into our lives for further resolution. The theme relates to taking responsibility about how we nurture ourselves and others in relationships.
June highlights include the first alignment of Jupiter with Uranus on June 8, along with a powerful lunar eclipse in Capricorn on June 26. Both can bring significant life changes and new opportunities. (See Eclipse Special below) Blessings for peace & prosperity!
