July is highlighted by a powerful lineup of planetary activity - a solar eclipse, two stations and ingresses, along with several major outer planet aspects. July and August are key months for the cardinal climax aspects, with the eclipse in Cancer and Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Pluto all in aspect to each other at 0-3 degrees of Capricorn, Libra and Aries. In the last week of July and first week of August, a series of Mars aspects will energize these outer planets to create sparks of dynamic change and a quickening of events. Though with all the outer planets retrograde (except Saturn), there will also be much behind the scenes activity.
We begin the month at the close of the Gemini new moon cycle, which featured a lunar eclipse in Capricorn. This ending phase can be useful for research or for completing projects related to writing or education. It is said that important decisions should not be made the week before an eclipse.
The first planetary station occurs on July 5 when Uranus in Aries turns retrograde at 0 Aries 36. It will return back into Pisces on August 13 for most of this year. This brief Uranus in Aries cycle can be useful for acting with courage and gaining new insights and revelations. One can also lay the groundwork for next year, when Uranus enters Aries again.
The New Moon Solar Eclipse occurs on July 11 at 19 Cancer 24. This eclipse may not be as intense as last month's lunar eclipse, as the only aspects are a sextile to Mars and conjunction with the asteroid Juno. The focus will be on the awareness of our emotional energy and how it is directed. This can include how we nurture ourselves and others, as well as express sensitivity and empathy. Do we associate with others who are truly supportive of us and our life purpose? Cancer also represents our home and family, as well as our inner and outer foundations of security, which may need some reviewing and refining amidst this period of greater change. The asteroid Juno is an indicator of marriage and other committed relationships, especially the focus on equality and freedom within relationships. This theme will be further emphasized when Saturn enters Libra later this month. The Sabian symbol for this degree suggests that happiness and fulfillment can be enhanced through a good social support system. The effects of these eclipses continue for six months or longer. (See Eclipse Special below.)
Two significant planetary ingresses occur in mid-month. On July 20, Chiron retrogrades back into Aquarius until early next year. Since it will be traveling with Neptune into 2011, we will likely see an increase in various new forms of alternative healing and energy medicine. On July 21, Saturn enters Libra for the next couple of years, bringing greater focus to the areas of relationships, equality and justice.
On July 23, Jupiter turns stationary retrograde at 3 Aries 24, and will be in Aries until November 18, 2010. Jupiter in Aries brings out its more active, independent and freedom-loving side, also enhanced by a Sun/Uranus trine the same day. This will likely be a good cycle for starting new businesses and other promotional or creative endeavors. On the next day, Jupiter squares Pluto, which can manifest in power and control struggles with others. Group endeavors may require more cooperation and compromise. This will be the first of three square aspects until February 2011.
The Full Moon occurs on July 25 at 3 Aquarius and forms favorable aspects with Jupiter, Uranus and Saturn. Aquarius represents our sense of social connectedness, along with equality, objectivity, innovation, uniqueness and independence. These themes support the Uranus/Jupiter in Aries energies already in full gear for this month. This will be a good period to form groups that bring together like-minded others for greater community, networking and support. It also favors educational and travel activities, along with writing and publishing. The trine from Saturn will support taking an organized, grounded and dedicated approach. The Sabian symbol for this degree speaks to being true to our own values and having authentic self-expression in all areas.
On July 26, Saturn opposes Uranus for the final time, completing a series of aspects that began in late 2008. This time it will occur at 0 degrees Libra/Aries, which may bring a new sense of freedom from the release of old obligations, structures or beliefs. There will be less tolerance for remaining with unfulfilling situations. As this week looks quite volatile, it is best to avoid risky activities on any level. Be prepared for more earth changes and storms. This potential will be enhanced by Mars opposite Uranus on July 30, followed by Mars conjunct Saturn on July 31, with both aspects at 0-1 Aries. This trend continues into early August, when Mars opposes Jupiter and squares Pluto on August 3. Though this period can produce some crises, it can also be an exhilarating time, as many will feel a strong drive to fulfill their missions.
In August we can look forward to a Super Moon and more intense planetary activity.
Blessings for a prosperous summer!
